Influence of Steroid-Hormones on the Release of pituitary Gonadotropin

Abstract
This paper is an article to study the effects of various steroid hormones on the release of pituitary gonadotropin, i.e., follicle stimulating hormone(FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). Both ovaries were removed from mature female rabbits and small parts of them were autotransplanted into the spleen 3 weeks after treated as above, estrogen,. progesterone, testosterone, and cortisone were injected for 1, 3, and 10 weeks respectively. Then after by the macro- and microscopic, findings of , the, transplanted ovaries the release of pituitary- gonadotropin was evaluated, The results obtained. from ¢¥this study were as follows:
I. Control group:
3 weeks after autotransplantation of the ovary into. the spleen, the release of FSH and LH, especially , the latter,, were increased; 6 or 13 weeks after autotransplantation, FSH-release increased markedly.
II Estrogen treated group:
1) In the group which was treated with estrogen 100 i.u. per day for a week, LH-release was increased. In the group treated for 10 weeks there was no effect on the release of pituitary gonadotropin.
2) In the group which was treated with estrogen 500 i.u. per day for a , week LH-release was decreased. In the group treated for .3 and 10, weeks, FSH-release was decreased, but LH-release increased.
3),In the group which was treated with estrogen 4,000 i.u. per day for a ,week, FSH and LH-release, especially the latter, were decreased. in the group for 3 and 10 weeks, both were decreased markedly.
III. Progesterone treated group:
1) In the group which was treated with progesterone 1 mg, per day for a week, there was no effect on the release of pituitary gonadotropin. But in the ¢¥group treated for 3 and 10, weeks, LH- release was increased.
2) In the group which was treated with progesterone 10 mg. per day for a week, FSH-release was increased. In the group treated for 3 and 10 weeks, LH-release was increased.
IV Testosterone treated group:
1) In the group which was treated with testosterone 1 mg. per day for a week, the release of pituitary gonadotropin was increased. In the group treated for 3 weeks, FSH and LH-release, especially the latter, were increased. In the group treated for 10 weeks there were no effect on the release of pituitary gonadotropin.
2) In the group which was treated with testosterone 10 mg. per day for a week, FSH and LH-release, especially the former, were decreased. In the group treated for 3 and 10 weeks, FSH and LH-release were decreased markedly.
V. Cortisone treated group
In the group which was treated with cortisone 3 mg. per day for a week, the release of pituitary gonadotropin was increased. In the group treated for 3 and 10 weeks, LH-release was incresed.
